The Ark of The Covenant, (in Hebrew/Aramaic: aron habrit), built to contain God's "stone tablets", was something more than a box of inscribed rocks. Speculate for yourself as to the nature of these Biblical Artifacts.

A clue: To the ancients, "STONE" meant ANYTHING not readily identifiable as earth (sand, clay, etc.), wood (plant matter), metal or flesh & bone. Those "stone"  tablets could have been two masses of URANIUM, for all we know, held apart by insulating layers of inert "stone".

"Thou shalt place therein the Word of the Law" God said to Moses and Moses brought down from the mountain 5 "tablets of stone", the 2 containing the Commandments being "special" (Moses cast them down together, causing a "squib" reaction that killed many Israelites).  The tablets contained the 5 books of Moses,   the TORAH    ( the LAW ), and evidence indicates they were to be put into the Ark in a specific order, the "commandments" tablets being 2 and 4 in the sequence.

We are told that Moses fell into poor health and died not long after handling these tablets unprotected. The Ark was kept in a specially-constructed enclosure, covered by a "veil"(when the "veil" was raised, "the Glory of God shone roundabout") and the Levites had to wear LAYERS of special clothing just to go near the Ark, and had to eat special, high-quality foods to maintain their health as they tended to the "Holy of Holies".

We are told that, when on the move, the people were instructed to walk FAR behind the ARK. We also told that a man died instantly (Uzzah - Samuel 2, 6:6-7) from touching the Ark and, when it was captured by the Philistines, many of them died from exposure to the Ark, prompting the Philistine (Palestinian) leaders to return it to the Israelites.

The Ark's stated effects, therefore, seem to compare closely with those of ELECTRICITY and RADIATION, don't they? Personally, I doubt that it still exists, though I hope I'm wrong. Seems there should be interest in reconstruction of the artifact, according to description, and experimentation to determine possible properties.
